Thursday, 06.11.2025, 18:00, Atelier Concorde, Lisbon. «NO FLASH. Homage to Ricardo Rangel» (1924–2009)
A documentary film portrait on the doyen of Mozambican photography by Bruno Z'Graggen and Angelo Sansone, Switzerland 2012

(RR, film still)
Ricardo Rangel was one of the most important photographers in sub-Saharan Africa at the time. At almost the end of 2025, the year of celebrations marking 50 years of independence for Portugal's former colonies in Africa, the film event honors and reflects Ricardo Rangel's life work which started under the Portuguese domination to be continued after independence was achieved in 1975 within Mozambique's socialist state building. How do we look and consider on Rangel's legacy today and his impact on photography? What is its importance?
The screening follows a conversation with: Bruno Z'Graggen, Alexandre Pomar, art critic and journalist (Lisbon), and Sérgio Santimano, photographer (Mozambique). Both were interviewed in the film.
A cooperation between Atelier Concorde, the collective art- and workspace in Lisbon and Bruno Z'Graggen, freelance curator based in Zurich, who is currently a guest at Atelier Concorde.
