Concept & History
VIDEO WINDOW does exist since 2012 and is a nomadic platform for the presentation of contemporary video art that has been curated by Bruno Z’Graggen. Its objective is to share the diversity of and the fascination for video art with a wider audience in a way that offers lively talks and debates. It focusses upon the work of video artists from Switzerland and abroad. The original presentation format consists of the screening and discussion of videos in the presence of the artists. Taking single works as its starting point, it seeks to present and compare the artistic interests, content and formal characteristics of individual positions. VIDEO WINDOW also realises formats such as series of events, thematic screening programmes, exhibitions and workshops.
The events organised by VIDEO WINDOW are held in cooperation with off-spaces, galleries, art institutions, cinemas, festivals, universities and art schools in national and international contexts. Requests for cooperation are welcome, especially from those beyond the immediate art world.
The VIDEO WINDOW platform functions on a project basis and as a non-profit initiative. It does not realise any financial profits.
The activities began in 2012 in the off-space OG9 in Zurich (2012–2014). A three-part series of events took place in cooperation with Zurich galleries between 2015 and 2018, with VIDEO WINDOW appearing as a guest in the galleries Bob Gysin (2015/2016), Lullin + Ferrari (2016/2017) and Mark Müller (2018). This was followed by projects with partners in other countries, such as the Festival Kugoma, Galeria Kulungwana and Escola Nacional de Artes Visuais (ENAV) in Maputo (Mozambique), Videobrasil in São Paulo, Keio University in Tokyo and the Cinemateca do Museu de Arte Moderna (MAM) do Rio de Janeiro, as well as with numerous partners in Switzerland, including the Haus für Kunst Uri, the University of Lucerne, the Kunstraum Walcheturm and Videoex Experimental Film & Video Festival in Zurich, the Kunsthaus Grenchen, the Eck - Space for Art in Aarau, the Kunsthalle and stattkino in Lucerne and the Stadtkino Basel.
